Just heard about a fundraiser dinner happening from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight, Dec. 29, at Bistro 17 in Shelter Cove Marina on Hilton Head Island. Proceeds from "Take Your Dog to Dinner" will benefit Chain Free Beaufort, a nonprofit organization dedicated to stopping the practice of chaining dogs to stationary objects.

Dog in Germany gives birth to 17 puppies

BERLIN — A dog in Germany has given birth to 17 cute puppies, leaving their owner thrilled but exhausted after having to feed them with a bottle for several weeks as their mother couldn’t cope with the demand.
Ramona Wegemann says she barely slept for more than a couple of minutes without interruption during about four weeks in an “exhausting” struggle to make sure all 17 would survive.

PAL offers winter adoption specials

Every Tuesday is Tiger Tuesday, when the adoption fee for any striped, tortoiseshell or brindle cat or dog is half off.
Wednesdays are White Wednesdays. See a cat or dog with any white on it? The adoption fee is half off.

Find treasures, help animals at yard sale

The Humane Association of the Lowcountry is hosting a yard sale fundraiser to support its furry four-leggers in foster care. The yard sale items have been donated by individuals and businesses in Beaufort County.
The sale — which will include furniture, paintings, household goods, electronics and more — will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Lady's Island Feed & Seed, 347 Sea Island Parkway.

Get your pet's photo with Santa, help PAL, too

Palmetto Animal League will present the annual Santa Paws event from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 11 at the adoption center in the Riverwalk Business Park in Okatie. Pet owners may bring their four-legged friends for a keepsake portrait with Santa Claus. A portrait is $15, or $10 for multiple photos. Photos will be e-mailed to recipients for use in Christmas cards, custom printing, etc. All of the proceeds benefit PAL. Tommy Beaumont will provide live Christmas music while photographer Liz Rigg take the portraits.
