Don’t let the pipes fool you. Gary Lindemann’s penchant for comedy is as strong as his voice.

Fresh off the Arts Center’s October production of “Man of LaMancha,” Lindemann returns to the Hilton Head Island stage in a decidedly different role than the immortal Don Quixote. As Richard Hannay — a man on the run for a crime he didn’t commit in the mystery/comedy “Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps” — Lindemann gets to stretch his acting muscles in a role that calls for perfect timing and physical comedy.

Gail Simmons has a mantra — one that quite possibly could take down the diet industry and solve America’s obesity problem: “There will be another dessert. I will have another meal. I will eat again.”

Repeating those words has helped keep the host of Bravo TV’s “Top Chef: Just Desserts” from overdoing it — which is easy to happen when you’re a professional food critic and the task at hand is to judge plate after plate of cupcakes, mousses, cookies and truffles.

“I only need one or two bites of every dessert,” she said. “Sometimes I struggle with the fact that I’m wasting ... but there are certainly lots of people on our set who are happy to take bites as well. We all taste it together. It’s about learning to taste.”

Larry Hughes has always been an audio sort of guy, starting with his early days listening to radio dramas as a kid to his days as a DJ at a college jazz station in New Jersey. He’s also a loyal fan of “Prairie Home Companion,” the venerable weekly public radio show hosted by Garrison Keillor that has somehow remained a huge hit in the age of iPads and Netflix.

It’s a scene familiar to many: hair dryers, gossip, sassy one-liners and occasional beauty advice, such as “time marches on and eventually you realize it is marchin’ across your face.”

For the women of “Steel Magnolias,” life is what happens between hair-styling appointments, and it’s in Truvy’s salon where they find the perspective, strength and friendship to make it through the highlights and lowlights.
