A lot of great Christmas songs tell a story.
"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" tells the story of a misfit mammal who uses his glowing red to bail out the jerks who taunted him and save Christmas.
"Frosty the Snowman" is about a talking, walking snowdrift who eventually breaks the hearts of children everywhere by (SPOILER ALERT) melting.
But few Christmas songs tell as interesting a story as today's song, The Waitresses' "Christmas Wrapping." An alternative Christmas classic, the song is about a girl who is thinking about just skipping the holiday season because of a few missed connections with some fellas. Obviously, these were the days before Craigslist.
Enjoy.

Patrick Donohue is the proudest Indiana native you're likely to find. Seriously. No one is prouder to be from a state that so many people know relatively so little about than he is. Patrick is a native of Terre Haute and a graduate of the Ernie Pyle School of Journalism at Indiana University. Knowing this, you might think he’d be a huge John "Cougar" Mellencamp fan, a man considered by some to be the Hoosier State's poet laureate. But you'd be wrong. In a major way. |
