The Heritage Classic Foundation and marketing firm Dixon Schwabl were named a finalist in the “Best Use of Twitter” for PR Daily’s Digital PR and Social Media Awards 2012, which honor the best social media campaigns in the country over the past year.
The foundation and Dixon Schwabl developed a Twitter campaign around Sir William “Willie” Innes, mascot of the RBC Heritage presented by Boeing, the island’s annual PGA Tour event played at Harbour Town Golf Links in April.
The campaign focused on using Sir Willie’s Twitter handle to interact with fans, players and sponsors throughout the golf tournament, helping to increase attendance 10 percent from the previous year and attracting the largest crowd since 2007, according to a news release.
Winners will be announced at a luncheon Jan. 24 at The Greenhouse at Scholastic headquarters in New York City, according to the release.
