A trio of junior girls tennis players from Hilton Head Island will play for singles titles at the Wachovia Palmetto Championships on Thursday in Belton. The tournament is invitation only, and most players consider it to be the most competitive state tournament in South Carolina.

Hayley Carter (18s), Amber Policare (14s) and Isabelle Boulais (12s) — all with ties to Hilton Head Island — won semifinal matches today to qualify for the finals in their respective age brackets.

Michael Sulka has been a long-snapper for all of one season. Based on his performance at last weekend's Ray Guy Kicking Academy, his future will be quite long.

Sulka, a Bluffton High School football player, tied for the camp's fastest snap at 0.78 seconds, and he was named the top long-snapping prospect at the academy, held in Summerville over Memorial Day weekend.

Hilton Head High's next AD to come from outside the school?

It's looking more and more likely that Hilton Head High's next athletics director will come from outside the school.

A few on the school's short list of potential internal candidates said Wednesday they did not apply for the opportunity to replace Lew Kent, who announced two weeks ago he had resigned from his post.

Hilton Head Island tennis resorts rank among world’s best

Some of the world’s top tennis resorts rest here on Hilton Head Island, according to Tennis Resorts Online, a website that annually ranks the top 100 tennis resorts and camps.

Six island locations cracked the top-100 list, led by Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, which ranked eighth. Sea Pines Resort was No. 14, also putting it in the Gold Medal Resorts category.
