Sarah Welliver was hired as a staff photographer for The Island Packet in October 2008. She spent four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, rising to the rank of sergeant. She graduated from the University of Montana in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. She is well-versed in multimedia, first learning her video and audio skills through the Freedom Forum Diversity Institute.
Jay Karr
grew up in Fulton, Mo., and majored in English at Fulton’s Westminster College before entering the University of Missouri master's program in journalism, graduating in 1990. He joined the Island Packet as a staff photographer in September of that year.
Jonathan Dyer was born in Miami. He graduated from Daytona Beach Community College with an associate degree in photographic technology and also has an associate degree from Florida State University. In 2000, he moved to South Carolina and was hired as a staff photographer. He has won multiple awards from the S.C. Press Association.
Drew Martin came to The Island Packet and The Beaufort Gazette as the photo and graphics editor in 2005 after working at the Savannah Morning News. He grew up in Kenosha, Wis., and graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a degree in art. He spends his days working with section editors, reporters and the photographers to produce local visual content.

Gone Fishing
Beaufort's Billy D. Beulah adds bait to his hook Monday afternoon at the pier at Sands Beach in Port Royal. Beulah, a former firefighter with Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue was fishing for shark and enjoying his second week of retirement. " I look young but I'm really old," Beulah joked.
