Two classes -- one in rug hooking and one in couponing -- are being offered at the Technical College of the Lowcountry in upcoming weeks.
A hands-on, introductory class on rug hooking will be held on Saturdays this fall. Students will complete a small section of a rub using cut wool fabric. Rug hooking developed in New England and Canada in the early 1800s. Rags and scraps were pulled through burlap to form a looped pile to create the rugs. In the 1940s, rug hooking was rediscovered and improved to form tapestry like pieces.
