  • Our sun is always warm: Today is supposed teeth-chattering cold here in the Lowcountry. But Arno Dimmling's photo of the sun rising Wednesday morning on Pine Island at Dolphin Head in Hilton Head Plantation reminds us that we always have a warming sun.

  • No professionals allowed on beach: The Charleston City Paper tells how the Isle of Palms is breaking hearts by banning vendors -
  • like professional photographers - from working on the beach.

    That's a big deal for brides planning beach weddings.

    Maybe they could at least let 'em eat cake. If Mama made it.

    Editor Michael M. DeWitt Jr. has the tongue-in-cheek story about the business in the Lowcountry's own Varnville, home of the late and lamented Varnville Pool, that builds, sells and delivers Outhouses.

But, as the The Charleston City Paper reports, "Last-minute petitions look to stall Johns Island development" that would place a 600-unit Angel Oak Village on 21 acres near the popular oak.
