Hilton Head Health, the island weight loss and health living center, opened up its Culinary Arts Center last year, inviting the public in for hands-on cooking classes. We did a story about them when the center opened.
Now they've teamed up with Hilton Head's Le Cookery for a new series of classes. From a release:
"The Culinary Arts Center (CAC) at Hilton Head Health (H3), Hilton Head’s newest healthy culinary experience, is partnering with local kitchen supplies store Le Cookery to present a healthy cooking demonstration open to residents and visitors of Hilton Head Island on Saturday, July 28th from 11 AM - 12:30 PM. For $35 attendees will watch and sample nine different Staple Sauce recipes and receive recipes cards and healthy cooking techniques that can be used at home.
This Staple Sauces cooking class, led by H3 Executive Chef Jen Welper, teaches attendees how to create low-calorie and low-fat sauces that can be used in a variety of dishes. Welper has a culinary nutrition degree from Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island, and has been providing cooking demonstrations, nutrition education classes and one-on-one Chef Consultations and cooking lessons at H3 for over five years.
'Our cooking classes aim to show attendees that eating healthy can be easy and most importantly delicious,' says Welper. 'We teach everything from proper knife skills to healthy entertaining—all the while encouraging attendees to enjoy their favorite dishes but to prepare them in a healthier way.'
Cooking with the proper tools and appliances plays a key role in making food preparation healthier. The staff at Le Cookery can help direct you to products that make healthy cooking easy and enjoyable.
The Staple Sauces class menu includes: H3 Marinara, H3 Alfredo, Pesto Cream Sauce, Savory Veloute, Madeira Mushroom Sauce, Sesame Ginger Sauce. Along with the following bonus recipes: White Wine Cream Sauce, Teriyaki Sauce, Sundried Tomato Alfredo Sauce. Sauces will be sampled over a variety of proteins to showcase their versatility.
The CAC offers a variety of weekly cooking classes that range from hands on classes to unique dining experiences. Topics focus on seasonal dishes and recipes. For more information on the CAC and to view the class schedule, visit www.hhhealth.com/cac. The CAC is also available for private parties, meetings and special events. Future specialty CAC and Le Cookery classes will be held in the upcoming months."
