Bluffton tennis coach Bob Brown wins USTA award

Bluffton High School tennis coach Bob Brown has won this year's No-Cut Starfish Award for South Carolina, as presented by the United State Tennis Association.

So what exactly is the award for? The USTA website says No-Cut schools offer all student-athletes a spot on the roster regardless of ability while its policy "sends a message that developing kids is important to the coach and the school." A release said Brown was chosen because of "his excellence in coaching and his No-Cut philosophy."

Brown, who led the Bobcats to their second straight Region 7-AAA championship and a first-round playoff win over Wilson, received a case of Penn Championship tennis balls for his team in honor of the award. He'll also be eligible for the national award alongside coaches from across the country, where the winning coach will be sent out to the USTA Community Development Workshop where he or she will receive the award.

“What I am learning often is about the success stories of the non-super stars that have made it due to not being cut,” Brown said in the release.
