Hilton Head High lacrosse rakes in awards

Five lacrosse players at Hilton Head Island High racked in lacrosse awards this week, highlighted by Nick Bautista, who was named South Carolina's 2012 Midfielder of the Year.

Bautista, who led the Seahawks to a 10-5 record and a berth in the Lower State championship, was naturally also named to the first team all-state squad at midfield.

But the awards may not be done pouring in for Bautista just yet. Coach Joe Monmonier said the senior is up for All-American honors, but that the nationwide team will not be named until later this month.

Joining Bautista on the first team was Andrew Kirby, who was selected as an all-state long pole midfielder.

Three others also brought home all-state honors for the Seahawks. Nate Jones was named to the second all-state team at attack while Madison Gayle was named to the second all-Lower State teem at goalie. Justin Shaw also brought home second team all-Lower State honors at midfield.
