I ran into chef Russell Keane at the Hilton Head Island Seafood Festival today, where he was participating in the Iron Chef competition (which he won, by the way). He had some big news. He's buying The Upper Crust in Bluffton, if all goes to plan. He said he plans to close the deal within the next two weeks. He'll keep the current Upper Crust menu (pizza/Italian) for a while then start experimenting with his own fare.
Chef Russell has become known on Hilton Head for his inventive menus. He made his name locally at WiseGuys and then moved on to become the chef at Daniel's. Check out these photos of the new dishes at Daniel's to see what I'm talking about. (In case you haven't been to the Upper Crust, it's in the shopping center next to Moss Creek.) He was also one of the first chefs on Hilton Head to really grasp the power of social media. Check him out on Twitter and Facebook.
