USCB baseball off to strong start

The USC Beaufort baseball team is off to a nice start. The Sand Sharks are 5-1 after this past weekend's four-game sweep of Mid-Continent (Ky.)
USCB plays on the road at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Division II Flagler in Sat. Augustine, Fla., before returning home for a three-game series against Milligan, a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader Saturday and a noon game Sunday.
Here are a couple of interesting tidbits from the notes package sent out by Justin Jarrett, USCB's sports information director:
-- Despite a slow offensive start, the Sand Sharks are 11th in NAIA in batting (.335) and fourth in hits per game (11.667).
-- Senior catcher Dylan Nasiatka, a transfer from Hofstra, has hits in six consecutive at-bats and nine hits in 12 at-bats for a .750 average, second in the nation. He went 5-for-5 on Friday against Mid-Continent to tie a school record for hits in a game.
-- Sophomore Erik Armstrong leads the nation in doubles (6) and is one of two Sand Sharks with at least one hit in every game this season. Gabe Torres is the other. Torres has hit safely in 11 straight games dating to last season, and Armstrong’s hit streak is at eight games.
-- Senior R.J. Neal is five RBIs shy of Spencer Jackson’s school record of 117.
-- Six of the 11 pitchers who have appeared for USCB this season have yet to allow a run, led by sophomore left-hander Alex Graham, who is 1-0 and has not given up a hit in 6 2/3 innings of work over three appearances. Opponents are also still in search of their first hit against senior lefty Matt Barger (3 IP) and freshman right-hander and Beaufort High School product Junior Delatorre (1 IP).
