T-3 hours until Justin Parker announcement

Posted in

Fans on message boards are going bonkers, recruiting sites are furiously making calls to report the latest signings and those with ESPNU are tuned in for round-the-clock television coverage.

Oh, the fun and drama of National Signing Day.

Before I offer a bit more insight into the Justin Parker situation, let me set the record straight once again -- me and Justin are not related.
Could we be kin through some obscure branch on the family tree? Sure.
Do I have a great respect for Justin, especially as he handles all this attention as a teenager? Most definitely.
Do his athletic skills mirror my former prowess on the high school basketball court? Perhaps...I might be better though.
Is he my blood brother? Nope.

With that said, I of course stand behind the story I broke that posted this morning and the sources in it.
The swirling question now is if the phone call that Byrnes tailback and new USC commit Marcus Lattimore said he would make to Parker last night ended up having any impact on Parker's decision...or if it even happened.
My gut and sources tell me Parker is Clemson-bound, but nothing's official until the announcement and there's little point in feeding into the happenings of a conversation that I didn't hear, so I won't.

What I will do is share a conversation that I had with new Clemson commit Ricky Chaney about two hours ago:

Me: "So I've been hearing some things across town..."
Chaney (trying to keep a chuckle from seeping through his wide grin): "Oh yeah, what have you been hearing?"
Me: "I hear that Justin Parker might be joining you at Clemson. If so, how much sweeter will your decision to go to Clemson feel?"
Chaney: "Oh man, it's a great feeling to have a guy like that playing on defense with you. If he does come, we'll definitely try to be roommates. We're pretty close friends. So yeah, that'd be real cool." (still smiling wide)

So for you sweating USC and Clemson fans, there's something to chew on as the clock ticks to 3 o'clock. Stay tuned.
