Beaufort High star Justin Parker to take first official visit to Colorado

Just hours after playing for the Region 8-AAAA title at Summerville on Friday, Beaufort High star linebacker Justin Parker will hop on a plane bound for the University of Colorado to take his first official college visit this weekend.

Parker, who had contacted the Buffaloes last week about an official visit, told me that he finalized the trip on Tuesday. During his day-and-a-half stay, Parker will experience Colorado's homecoming festivities, as the Buffaloes take on Big 12 rival Missouri.
The senior said that Colorado ranks "about sixth or seventh" on his current list of favorite schools, but this weekend's visit could help the Buffaloes' pursuit of the state's top-ranked linebacker prospect.

"I've never made a trip this far, so I'm really excited," said Parker, who has garnered more than a dozen scholarship offers from renowned Division I programs. "Outside of going to the game, I'm not sure what's planned, but I know it's going to be cold."

This announced visit comes just one day after Parker informed me that South Carolina had taken a slight lead over Clemson as his top school. The Tigers had been Parker's preferred program since he visited the campus during the summer, but after attending the USC-Vanderbilt game this past weekend and doing some thinking, Parker had a slight change of heart.

"South Carolina will always be the first camp I went to and the first school that offered me a scholarship my sophomore year," Parker said. "I'll always remember that and I can tell they are really committed to me. We'll see what happens."

Parker said he plans to take two of his four remaining official visits to Clemson and USC, with an eye on making his trip to Columbia during the weekend of Nov. 14, when the Gamecocks host top-ranked Florida.
