Dogs get to be the diners at Bistro 17

I told a friend I was going to Bistro 17 because "they serve dogs there." She looked at me like I was a sick, sick person. "No, no, no!" I said. "They serve food TO dogs there! Dogs aren't on the menu!" Poor choice of words, I guess. (So we're completely clear, Bistro 17's menu is 100 percent dog-free.)
I visited Bistro 17 for lunch over the weekend. My friend, Shanda, and I heard the restaurant was dog friendly, and decided to take our favorite girls — Lily and Penny — for an afternoon outing.
The restaurant is located in Shelter Cove Marina, to the right of the Neptune statue. Dogs and their owners are welcome to dine in the shaded patio, which provides a nice view of the marina. We waited a few minutes for a table on the outside of the dining area so our dogs would have a little more wiggle room and wouldn't bother other customers.

Upon our arrival, the server brought the dogs a bowl of ice water (which they slurped up quickly because it was an annoyingly hot October day) and a bowl of Iams dog biscuits. Penny loves dog treats of all varieties, while Lily is picky and particular. So Lily's loss was Penny's (weight) gain.
The server brought us a puppy menu, which offers three homemade meals by Lucky Dog Cuisine. I ordered "Francois' Favorite" for Penny, which contains ground turkey and pureed veggies. She didn't leave a morsel on the plate. The meal was $6, with $3 going to Best Friends Animal Society.
In addition to lunch, Penny and Lily enjoyed lots of attention from other diners and passersby. They received several pats on the head and smiles, and looked utterly satisfied (if not pooped) on the ride home.
* On a side note: Bistro 17 is hosting its second annual dog costume party Oct. 31. Prizes will be given to the best dressed, and proceeds and donations will be given to Jasper Animal Rescue Mission.
