Corps films new recruiting ad at Parris Island

Cameras were rolling last week on Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island as a New York-based production company filmed the Corps’ newest recruiting commercial, according to the The Boot, the depot’s newspaper.

Titled “America’s Marines,” the commercial features Marines from the Marine Barracks in Washington, D.C., as well as Parris Island drill instructors hand-selected by the commercial’s producers and Marine Corps brass.

“We hand-selected each Marine,” Capt. Salvatore Nigro, media awareness officer for Marine Corps Recruiting Command in Quantico, Va., was quoted as saying. “We made sure they were all physically and mentally fit to portray what the Corps has to offer.”

Crews spent nearly a week filming the commercial, which is scheduled to air this fall. Shooting wrapped up Friday, according to the paper.

Justin Baum, the commercial’s creative director for J. Walter Thompson Productions, told The Boot that the spot will give viewers an up close and personal look at Marine Corps recruit training.

“We’re showing it like we’ve never shown it before,” Baum was quoted as saying. “We’re making the viewer part of the action this time. ... We’re making this commercial like something you’d expect to see in a blockbuster movie.”

The new commercial is not the first to feature scenes from recruit training at Parris Island. A television spot released last year by the Corps features a montage of Corps-related video clips, including some shot at Parris Island.
