Beaufort LB Justin Parker cracks Sporting News Today's list of top recruits
It's never a bad time for football news, right? And with spring practices right around the corner for the area's public schools, now seems as good a time as any.
The online publication Sporting News Today (not sure, but I think a free subscription is required) released its top 100 high school football recruits for the 2010 recruiting class in Thursday's edition, and only three players from South Carolina made the list -- but you'll probably recognize one of them.
(I guess the headline kind of spoiled the suspense, huh?)
As you probably figured, Beaufort High linebacker Justin Parker made the list at No. 92. Parker made 97 tackles for the Eagles last year, six for losses, and forced two fumbles, recovered one and intercepted one pass. He was a first-team pick on the Beaufort Gazette/Island Packet All-Area Team as a junior.
The experts and Sporting News Today seem to think Parker will follow the lead of Devin Taylor, Jimmy Legree and Duane Chisolm and stay close to home. Here's what the publication had to say: "Outside linebacker has Clemson and South Carolina all over him; would be a surprise if he left his home state."
The other two Palmetto State players on the list come from Byrnes High School, and one of them topped the list. Running back Marcus Lattimore was rated No. 1 (SNT says he favors Auburn at the moment, but you can bet the Tigers and Gamecocks will be beating down his door and blowing up his cell phone with text messages between now and signing day). Defensive lineman Brandon Willis came in at No. 56, and SNT thinks he could head out of state, suggesting Florida State, Georgia and North Carolina are atop his list of suitors.
