St. Helena man to deputy: 'Sir, I have marijuana in my car'
A St. Helena man was arrested this weekend after confessing to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputy that he had marijuana in his car during a traffic stop, according to an incident report.
Police say the man stopped by a Beaufort County Sheriff’s deputy who ran the license plate on his silver Jeep Cherokee only to find that the plate was registered to a 1993 Honda Accord.
The deputy wrote that he saw pieces of a leafy, green substance on the leg of the man’s sweatpants and smelled burnt marijuana inside the car.
After asking being asked for various forms of identification, the man told the deputy, “Sir, I’m guilty.”
When the deputy asked the man what he was guilty of, the man replied, “Sir, I have marijuana in my car,” and voluntarily handed the officer a 5-inch marijuana cigarette.
A search of the car revealed $230 in small bills, two digital scales with a white powder residue on it and two boxes of sandwich baggies, according to the report.
The man told police that his “baby mama” had stolen the plate from a parked car.
He was charged with simple possession of marijuana, driving with a suspended license, operating uninsured, using the tag for another vehicle and possession of paraphernalia. The man was released Monday from the Beaufort County Detention Center on bond.
