Hamilton leads a morning wave full of big movers

Tagged:

Todd Hamilton, who hasn't won a PGA Tour event since his rookie of the year season in 2004, has put himself in good position at the Verizon Heritage, firing a 5-under 66 this morning to take the second-round lead at Harbour Town Golf Links at 8 under par, and he was on top of his game in the interview room, too, talking for about 25 minutes, so we writers should have plenty of good material for you readers.

Hamilton is in the last year of his five-year exemption from winning the 2004 British Open, so he could use a win here to re-up his exempt status.

But he wasn't the only guy going low this morning. Five-time Heritage champ Davis Love III shot 4 under to get to 5 under for the tourney, Rory Sabbatini got back in the hunt with a 3-under 68, and South Carolina native Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey shot 3 under after an even-par 71 yesterday. Jose Coceres, the 2001 Heritage champ, shot 4 under, putting him at 1 under for the tournament, which puts him alongside two-time defending champ Boo Weekley.

A few guys toward the top of the leaderboard are still out on the course, so stay tuned for more updates. And as always, if you want more frequent bursts of information from Harbour Town, follow me on Twitter at twitter.com/justinjarrett.
