Chelsea — you can still get hitched on Hilton Head

According to the always accurate and reliable sources at The National Enquirer online, the 29-year-old daughter of former president Bill Clinton and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is getting married this summer.

I’m super happy for Chelsea, who has improved her looks tremendously since those awkward teen years in the White House (and I totally sympathize with her because we were going through the bad hair and braces phase at the same time).

But when I heard she could fulfill her dream wedding to boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky on our Hilton Head Island, my happiness swelled.

A family insider quoted by the Enquirer said, “Hilton Head is a good bet because that's where she met Marc in 1993 at a Renaissance Weekend, an annual event for heavy-hitters that their families attended.”

Who knew?

My happy bubble quickly burst, though, when it was confirmed that this rumor was indeed not true. It was a harsh dose of reality: Don’t believe everything you read online.

Still, the Lowcountry is a popular place where many couples choose to tie the knot for its Southern charm, natural beauty and lovely — yet laid back — accommodations.

We haven’t had a high-profile wedding here in long time. (A recent episode of “Bridezillas” that was taped here doesn’t count.)

For these reasons, I think the area is a perfect fit for the Clintons’ only daughter, whether she secretly gets married now or three years from now.

So, Chelsea, when you do get around to throwing your lavish, lovely reception, consider our beautiful beaches at sunset and the sentimental value the island holds for for you and your beau.

And if you have any questions about planning, we’ll be happy to help.
