Tailgating, South Carolina style

  • "And, of course, the unmistakable pre-game whiffs of bourbon": Megan Sexton tells us The State paper today how the Gamecocks wine and dine before kickoff.

    Cornish hens roasting on a massive grate, pieces of smoldering oak providing the heat from below. Chicken quarters sizzling on a gas grill, a pot of barbecue sauce warming on a side burner. A boiling vat of Beaufort stew, the scent of Old Bay seasoning mingling with shrimp, potatoes, sausage and corn. And, of course, the unmistakable pre-game whiffs of bourbon.
